EN – Mont Sourire et petit Carcan

On a very cloudy day of October, we decided to go hiking in order to enjoy the nice fall colours. It was Thanksgiving Day, so we decided to go early to avoid traffic (Ha.Ha.). Our goal was to hike Mont Sourire and then take the Petit Carcan trail.

This hike is completely free! You can park at the bottom of the mountain, the parking spots are pretty easy to find, we just had to put Mont Sourire in Google Maps and we got there no problem. The trails are well indicated and there are many maps along the way. It’s a pretty short hike to get to the top of Mont Sourire, about 30 minutes. From there, the view is absolutely beautiful! We decided to continue hiking and took a right at the intersection not too far after Mont Sourire’s summit. That trail leads to Petit Carcan. It is also possible to do a longer hike and take the trail that goes around the lake as well as Petit Carcan. The view on this trail is amazing! Orange, red and yellow as far as the eye can see. Who said we need to go far for great hikes?

Because we got there pretty early, we did not see many hikers on the way up. On the way down, however, it was packed! It’s pretty normal since it was a Holiday but it’s hard to say if it’s always that busy.

We hiked for about 2 and a half hours. It’s definitely possible to stop along the way to have a picnic. A family was actually having one at the top of Mont Sourire. The trail to get to Mont Sourire is pretty large, it gets narrow as you continue towards Petit Carcan.
